How did you meet each other?
We met working weddings at The Links at Gettysburg in Pennsylvania in 2010. Ryan was a chef and I interned with the wedding coordinators and then was a server on the weekends. Needless to say, we've seen a lot of weddings! We were assigned to hang paper lanterns inside of the tents one afternoon before an evening wedding and it was our first chance to talk to each other one on one. Starting with the wedding that night, Ryan started saving me appetizers and the better meal selection, and I knew I should keep him around. From Pennsylvania, we moved to Virginia, then out to Colorado.
What was the best memory of your wedding day?
Our first look was the best. I cried at our rehearsal the day before, and was always about 10 seconds away from losing it during the wedding day. I think it was a combination of us finally getting married, the planning being over, and excited nerves--as well as hoping he would like the dress! I also cry at strangers weddings, so it was almost a guarantee I would at ours. But when we finally saw each other that day, a state of calm came over me, and it didn't matter that there were photographers and videographers around us, it felt like it was just the two of us on that balcony. From that moment on, I was just having fun. We actually hosted a full wedding weekend, a lot of our guests arrived a couple days early, we did a welcome reception for everyone on Friday night, Sunday brunch, and Sunday Red Rocks show. Because of the couple days of lead up, our family and friends mixed so well, better than we could've ever imagined. At the wedding, Ryan and I were upstairs a couple times and looked down on our favorite people in the room, and it was so special to have each one of them there. Oh, also when Ryan decided about 3 minutes before walking down the aisle that Moose was coming with him. It was our dream that he would be able to be there, but we know that he's a wild card. Him falling asleep during the ceremony and then walking around greeting everyone at cocktail hour was amazing...he was perfectly behaved, and we were shocked :)
What would be some advice you would give to future couples as they plan their wedding day?
Do a first look, trust your vendors, and enjoy. Easier said than done, but if at the end of the day you're married, then you accomplished the goal you set out to do on that day. And if you hired the right people to do their jobs, then you will have the chance to enjoy yourself too. Drake and his team were so calm that I couldn't help but be calm. I knew that they are the experts, and they would put me in a location that would look good for photos and videos, so no reason to stress about it. Same thing with our other vendors, I was probably annoying with phone calls and emails leading up to it, but on the day, I let them do their job, and they all did it so well. Also, we were together over 9 years when we finally got married, and because of being a little older, and moving across the country from our families, we had a smallish wedding of 78 people. But everyone who was there was so excited to be there and happy for us and we actually got to see them, spend time with them, and treat them to a fun weekend, which we probably wouldn't have been able to do with more people.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Haven't gone yet! We wanted to enjoy our time with our guests, so we stayed at the hotel a couple extra days, hired a party bus to take us and a group to Red Rocks for a concert on Sunday night, and just relaxed. Hoping to go to Thailand in 2020, possibly spend our one year anniversary there.
