How did you meet each other?
Our love story is like the ultimate romantic comedy, with a touch of cosmic destiny and a sprinkle of caffeine. It all started during Thanksgiving 2021 when James and I managed to see beyond online profiles and connect on a deeper level. Who knew that a simple swipe could lead to such a profound connection?
Our first face-to-face meeting was in a coffee shop—classic, right? But it wasn't your typical quick coffee date; it turned into a six-hour adventure. A coffee turned into a stroll through Wash Park, and it felt like we had stepped into a magnetic forcefield of love, as if our souls had planned this rendezvous ages ago.
Despite the challenge of being in different time zones—me in Denver and James in San Diego—we navigated a four-month long-distance journey. The miles couldn’t compete with the bond we were building. In true romantic fashion, James decided to close the gap, moving to Denver and proving that our love was worth it.
On March 4, 2022, at the breathtaking Garden of the Gods, James got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I didn’t just say yes to the ring; I said yes to a life filled with love, support, and endless adventures together.
Our love is more than just between us; it’s a family affair too. James surprised my parents in Michigan to ask for their blessing before proposing, showing me that he’s not just a partner—he’s someone who goes the extra mile to build a foundation of love and respect.
So, here's to our story—a delightful mix of serendipity, love, and the beautiful journey of two souls who found their way to each other. Move over, Nicholas Sparks; we've got our own romance with less rain and more laughter!
What was the best memory of your wedding day?
It's hard to choose just one memory from our wedding day because there were so many special moments. Writing our entire ceremony and vows together was incredibly meaningful, as was honoring James's Japanese heritage with a traditional san san kudo ceremony.
We also made a point to keep the celebration intimate, surrounded only by our closest family and friends. But the most exciting part of the day was surprising everyone with a choreographed dance to the finale of Dirty Dancing. We went all out with full costumes and even nailed the lift! The whole day felt like a fairy tale, and it still does.
What would be some advice you would give to future couples as they plan their wedding day?
Make it Personal: Incorporate elements that reflect your personalities, values, and shared experiences. Whether it's writing your own vows or including cultural traditions, these personal touches will make the day feel uniquely yours.
Stay Present: The day goes by quickly, so take a few moments throughout to pause, breathe, and soak it all in. This helps you stay connected to the experience and truly enjoy each special moment with your partner, family, and friends.
Have Fun and Be Flexible: Things might not go exactly as planned, and that’s okay! Embrace the unexpected, and remember that the most important thing is celebrating your love with the people who matter most.
Where did you go on your honeymoon? Where did you stay and what were a couple activities you enjoyed.
We embarked on a romantic beach vacation in Maroma Beach, Cancun for our honeymoon, staying at a beautiful resort that felt like paradise.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the calming sounds of the ocean and the warmth of the sun. We spent our days playing in the ocean, enjoying delicious cuisine, and fun walks on the beach. Lots of naps were a must! During our downtime, we chatted about our wedding experiences, sharing our perspectives and connecting even more deeply over those special moments.
I highly recommend leaving for your honeymoon the day after the wedding. It’s the perfect way to decompress and soak it all in together right away. The transition from celebrating our love with friends and family to an intimate getaway felt magical, and it allowed us to fully relish in the joy of our new journey as husband and wife.
If you’re considering a similar getaway, I can’t recommend it enough! Every moment was meaningful and enjoyable, and it really helped us settle into our new life together.
