How did you meet each other?
We met on Bumble, an online dating app, in December 2019
What was the best memory of your wedding day?
Ashley: My best memory from our wedding day was our first dance. We took dance lessons and had a routine from one of my favorite songs, Head Over Boots by Jon Pardi. Obviously, we couldn’t practice our dance in my actual wedding dress because Joe couldn’t see it before the big day. Thankfully, after the ceremony, we had a few minutes to practice the routine alone to get out any last-minute nerves. Good thing we had that moment because my dress was way too long even after it was bustled, and I fell to the floor because I stepped on my dress. My MOH Sydney was able to find a million safety pins and she found a way to make the back a little bit shorter. Our official first dance was perfect, and we hit every move, and I didn’t fall!
Joe: Pulling off the first dance flawlessly! I could finally relax because the big moment was over.
What would be some advice you would give to future couples as they plan their wedding day?
A little detail goes a long way! The wedding planning process can be overwhelming and very expensive. We knew we were buying a house right after our wedding, so we made it a point to stick to a strict budget. That meant cutting out a few details you’d typically see at other weddings – All our flowers were fake. We didn’t have a five-tiered wedding cake. We had 50 guests at our wedding. But in our eyes, it was exactly what we wanted! Pick out the things that are most important to you, but don’t feel obligated to include every “traditional” wedding detail if it doesn’t speak to you.
Where did you go on your honeymoon? Where did you stay and what were a couple activities you enjoyed.
We went to Maui and stayed at an Airbnb in Kihei right on the beach. We would absolutely recommend this spot to others! While we were there, we explored Haleakala National Park and drove to the summit of the Haleakala volcano. We also did a few other hikes in the National Park, which were very cool because the hiking is completely different than what you would normally see in Colorado. We also drove the Road to Hana and explored several stops along the way. A few of our favorite stops were Twin Falls, where Joe went swimming in the waterfalls, and the Pipiwai trail, which felt like hiking through a jungle.
