How did you two meet?
LeeAnn and Craig met in 1991 when the Hancock’s moved to Marrietta, GA from Ft Lauderdale, FL. Their older brothers, Ed and Jerry, played on the same club soccer team. LeeAnn and Craig spent many weekends playing and chasing each other on the sidelines of their brothers games. Let’s be honest, though, LeeAnn did most of the chasing and Craig was quick on his feet. Let the Fourth Grade crush commence! Typical childish behaviors: boy pushes girl down on the playground; girl gets upset, or pushes back. Mother tells daughter, “& He does that because he likes you.” LeeAnn didn’t believe her mother.
In 1993, they both started middle school at East Cobb Middle School. LeeAnn was still swooning over Craig and practicing writing her name as “LeeAnn Hancock” when she passed notes to her friend Ava. Craig supposedly had no clue, and only had eyes for bucks and bass. Then high school came. LeeAnn transferred to Pace Academy and Craig went to Wheeler High School. LeeAnn figured Craig wouldn’t bat at eye at her absence. Don’t be fooled, he really didn’t. Craig was still chasing racks and bass. But typical LeeAnn, she didn’t give up easily. Their freshman year, LeeAnn received an invitation for the Cotillion dance for Wheeler. She knew exactly whom she wanted to ask, and what did she have to lose besides rejection? But that never stopped her. LeeAnn took a chance and asked Craig to the dance. Figured it is now or never. But don’t get too excited. LeeAnn and Craig attended the dance, but did not spend any time together. Girls to one side, boy to the other. Needless to say, it was clear Craig was did not reciprocate the same feeling as LeeAnn. LeeAnn went on to graduate from Pace and Craig from Wheeler, but their parents remained in touch.
Fast forward to October, 2017. LeeAnn goes in for a visit with her dentist, Dr. Jerry Hancock, and Craig’s name came up, as it always did. LeeAnn decided to take another chance and reach out to Craig via text message (Thank you, Jason Gucwa). Craig responded.....and it wasn’t with “Who?” much to LeeAnns relief. The texts and friendly banter was non-stop. About three weeks later Craig was visiting his mom in Tennessee and LeeAnn lived in Nashville. They thought it would be nice to meet up for a drink since it had been nearly 18 years since they saw each other. It was like no time had passed. We were like two kids, giggling, still picking on one another. It was different this time though. Craig didn’t want to leave to return to Florida and LeeAnn didn’t want him to go either. Craig started to have eyes for something other than bucks and bass.....and the rest is history.
What was the best memory of your wedding day?
Our giggles and happy tears during our ceremony and that I put Craig's ring on the wrong hand
What would be some advice you would give to future couples as they plan their wedding day?
Eat during reception as your first meal as husband and wife, to enjoy each other and the moment before all the crazy fun begins; be flexible because at the end of the day, you get to marry one another.
Where did you go on your honeymoon? Where did you stay and what were a couple activities you enjoyed. Would you recommend to other couples?
We went to the Sandals Resort in the Bahamas; did 3 excursions so we balanced relaxation with activities with one another.
