How did you meet each other?
Like so many couples these days, we met online (Match.com). After just a short period of dating we both knew this relationship was different. There was a moment shared at the end of our first ski run together where we both realized this was not just a fun person to be around, but would be the partner we wanted by our side for the long haul. We make a great team - on and off the slopes.
What was the best memory of your wedding day?
Nicole: It's really hard to pick just one but I think my emotions hit a peak just before and as I started to walk down the aisle. Standing in the bridal cottage with my dad, peaking out the window at everyone suddenly made everything very real. And when the doors finally opened and I stepped outside and made eye contact with Nick (who was wiping tears from his eyes) - I think that was the most joy and love filled moment of my entire day. Very closely behind that would be tearing it up on the dance floor.
Nick: It's near impossible to pick just one moment but without a doubt it was our first look. I still remember standing in position and all of a sudden it got real quiet. I knew Nicole was approaching. A second later I felt the tap on my shoulder and turned around. Nicole had the biggest smile on her face and I immediately felt my eyes get heavy. It's hard to fully describe what I was feeling at that moment, but pure happiness comes close. Besides that, breaking it down on the dance floor in our Mr. and Mrs. hats to Uptown Funk was another highlight.
What would be some advice you would give to future couples as they plan their wedding day?
Identify (early) what your priorities are for the day and let the rest go. Don't care about the linen colors? Let it go! Make a quick decision and don't look back. Spend your time, energy, and money on the things YOU care most about for your day and don't sweat the rest of it. Also - invest in a day of coordinator! It will be one of the best decisions you make to hand off the stress of running the day to someone that is not you, your mother, or your maid of honor so that you and all your people can focus on just enjoying the day!
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We honeymooned for about 10 days to Banff, Jasper, and Calgary. We would ABSOLUTELY recommend this location to other couples, especially if you're looking for a less traditional (not sitting on a beach), but still relatively close and inexpensive honeymoon. We spent most of the time relaxing, soaking in the cooler weather, and enjoying the mountains. Nick's favorite part was a helicopter ride we took in Banff - a totally awesome experience with some seriously breathtaking views. Nicole's favorite part was the Patricia Lake Bungalows, where we stayed in Jasper. They were cozy little log cabins set on a private lake in a fairly remote location, which made our time in Jasper very peaceful because we were able to relax in the wilderness and enjoy the lake, mountains, and snow after we spent a week in the more touristy Banff. All in all, the Canadian Rockies are gorgeous and we highly recommend this destination!
