How did you meet?
Our story began in February 2016 on E-Harmony! Josh initiated contact with Kelly (who didn't respond for almost a week - he never lets me forget it lol). After a couple days of random questions and conversations back and forth, we decided we wanted to exchange phone numbers. We had our first date in early March 2016 and by May, became an "official" couple :) We both saw something special in each other and knew there was a solid foundation for a future together! Neither of us knew what dating would look like with a child involved and our relationship was far from the "norm" since the beginning. We were forced to face some very difficult things and have hard conversations that many couples don't experience until they are well into their marriages. We communicated, cried, laughed, and pushed through because we believed that God's plans are so much better than our own! We both praise the Lord for revealing His plan for us to be a family and how His ways FAR exceed anything we can dream up or plan for ourselves! Our story is one of strength, commitment, support, forgiveness, grace and unconditional love. We wouldn't be where we are without all your help and prayers and even more, God's love!"
What was your favorite memory from your wedding day?
One of our best memories was actually right after we had finished the ceremony and family photos...Josh and I snuck off to an area away from everybody to take in what had just happened :) We wanted to take 5 minutes to let our vows sink in and just be together before the craziness of the reception started. We had Josh's best man, Travis, bring us a shot (which ended up being Jack Daniels because it's all he could find haha) to celebrate and enjoy. No one but the 3 of us knew we were doing this, which made it that much more special and fun! Those 5 minutes allowed us to slow down and be intentional about enjoying every moment :) Of course, we loved the entire day from start to finish! We couldn't have had better weather and all of our closest family and friends showed up to love on us and celebrate with us in one of our favorite spots! Another favorite moment of the day...just the two of us wrapped up the night at the only open bar in town, wedding attire and all and we shared a cold cuban sandwich, a bag of chips, and a whiskey on the rocks lol! Classic Kelly and Josh ;)
What is some advice you would give to other couples planning their wedding?
Our advice to couples planning their wedding would be to make sure that your day is what YOU want it to be. SO many people will have opinions, including your own family, and you will be pushed and pulled in several directions, so stand your ground and make it what you want because you will regret it if you get to your big day and you've just people pleased your way there! Secondly, hire a good coordinator (or even if you just know someone who is super organized and timely) because you will want your big day to run as smooth as possible. Third, be intentional about remembering every single moment. Find the beauty in every transition, picture, speech, dance, and conversation and tell yourself you're going to remember it forever...burn it into your mind :) Fourth, remember that no one but you knows exactly how things should go. Like every bride, I had a meltdown before the wedding as i was focusing on the details and one of my bridesmaids told me, "Kelly...either it will happen or it won't. The day will go on and you will just have to go with the flow." That really stuck with me and helped me to remember the important things...we were there to get married and become a family! Enjoy it to the fullest!
Did you go on a honeymoon?
Josh and I had every intention of taking a honeymoon, but we bought a house instead lol. So funds are tight, but we plan to travel to Greece for our 5 year anniversary, which is where we originally wanted to go for our honeymoon! In the upcoming months, we definitely plan on getting away for a mini honeymoon to some CO mountain towns, which is one of our favorite things to do!!
